Snobirds:

  • Our next meeting is March 1st at 9:00. The meeting is at THE ORANGE BEACH COMMUNITY CENTER!  This is where we had the Picnic this past Thursday. We have two speakers for our meeting. Tammy Kinney Of the Baldwin County Heritage Museum and a representative of " Samaritan's Purse". Lunch after the meeting is at ANOTHER BROKEN EGG" which is west of the OBCC on Canal Rd. By Hwy 161 they will be open when we get there.
  • Speaking of the picnic, wasn't that a great one. A good time to visit and then plenty of good food and beverage. Randy Oswald and his crew treated us all well.
  • Here is some interesting facts about the Snowbird Season Fundraisers:
    • Mary's Shelter raised over $135,000.00 with their Draw Down
    • The Low Country Boil Raised $6,525.00. donating $4.500.00 To The Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo (-$1,425.00 Loan payback and $600.00 2024 rent)
    • The Calendar Drawing raised $3,900.00 for the three Gulf Coast Fire Departments
    • 8 Pin No Tap Bowling for Christian Services raised $1,001.00
    • Trivia Night $4,200

This list does not include all the fund raisers by churches and groups that we all attended where food was served.

  • Easter Dinner: Wisconsin Snobirds will again celebrate Easter at the OBCC. Social is at 12:30 and we will eat at 2:00. You need to sign -up and bring a pass around dish. Easter Dinner is for Wisconsin Club Members their families and friends. We will have ham and supply the plates, table ware, coffee and tea. If you wish to have some other beverage you need to bring your own.  You can sign up at either of the two remaining meetings or at the three breakfast / lunches in March. You can also call or email me.
  • Battleship Memorial Park, has a Snowbird Special. Purchase one (1) Senior ticket for $15.00 and get 1 (one) FREE. This offer is good until April 16th 2023. They are also having a "Living History Crew Drill" on April 16th, 2023.
  • BALDWIN COUNTY HERITAGE MUSEUM (BCHM) Jim Lorenz Memorial Fund-Raiser. JAMBALAYA Saturday March 4th 11:00 am to 2:00 pm. BCHM is located 1 mile east of Elberta's traffic light on US 98. Tickets will also be available At our March 1st Wisconsin Snobird Meeting.
  • Annual COTTON BAY SUBDIVISION YARD SALE, Saturday March 4th 2023 from 8:00 am to !:00 pm. Cotton Bay Subdivision is located 1/2 Mile east of Hwy 59 on Cty Rd. 4. STILL A GOOD IDEA;  why not stop at the YARD SALE on your way to the BCHM JAMBALAYA in Elberta.

Snobirds:

  • Thank You too all of you that offered to pick up the Donuts for our two March meetings at the Orange Beach COMMUNITY CENTER.
  • Those of you going to The Club Wisconsin Picnic, Thursday February 23th remember that the EATING TIME has been changed to 11:30.  If you are driving to the picnic, Canal Road going east from Hwy 161 is under construction. The speed limit is 25 MPH and is strictly enforced.
  • THINGS TO DO:
    • I have scheduled the March 15th Breakfast at Hazel's Nook in GS, on Hwy 180 almost in front of Walmart. Breakfast is at 8:30. Hazel's has a breakfast buffet.
    • If you are looking for something to do: Battleship Memorial Park, has a Snowbird Special. Purchase one (1) Senior ticket for $15.00 and get 1 (one) FREE. This offer is good until April 16th 2023. They are also having a "Living History Crew Drill" on April 16th. 
    • February 25th: The Fort Morgan Oyster Festival, 10:00 am to 1:00 pm at The Beach Club Resort in Fort Morgan. Live Music, Chef Demos and Craft Vendors for you to enjoy. "DON'T" Love Oysters, They will also have food and beverage provided by Sassy Bass.
    • Annual FAT TUESDAY Pancake Breakfast: February 21st 7 am to 10;00 am  Tickets $7.00.  At The Gulf Shores United Methodist Church (building "B"). Hwy 59 in Gulf Shores

Wisconsin Snobirds

Snobirds:

  • Last Service of 2023 - Church services with Holy Communion for WELS/ELS snowbirds will be held at St. Jude's by-the-Sea Lutheran Church, 312 East 16th Avenue, Gulf Shores, AL 36547. Service begin at 4 pm and will be followed by a Bible Study in the sanctuary on February 19th. For more information, contact Jim and Karen Diehm via email at jkdiehm@gmail.com.
  • We need someone to pick up the donuts at Walmart for the next two meetings  March 1st and March 8th.  You just will need to go to GS Walmart at 7:00 am on the days of the meetings and go to the bakery and ask for the donuts for The Wisconsin Club. Pay for them and deliver them to the ORANGE BEACH COMMUNITY CENTER (OBCC). Then give the receipt to Ron Pugh, treasurer. He will write you a check for the donuts.  You also become a very popular person when you arrive at the OBCC with the donuts.  Please email me.  This is your opportunity to help.
  • FUNDRAISING FOLLOW UP 
    • 3rd Annual Be My Valentine? $10,000 draw down for Mary's Shelter. Over the years they have made over $135,000.00 with the Draw Down Extravaganza.
    • Blessing Boxes: Wisconsin Snobirds donated over $205.00 in cash and many many food items to Blessing Boxes  (Facebook page) at last Thursday's meeting. Pictures in the 2023 Event Photos sections, first two photos under Meeting #4.

    • Due to the great popularity of  the Cruises from Historic Blakely State Park to Mobile Harbor, we are able to offer a 3rd  cruise on Sunday,  February 26th, 1-4 pm. We must have a minimum of 25 people.  14 signed up today. We can take a maximum of 45. If you are interested, please contact Maureen Donovan at donovan72481@gmail.com as soon as possible. She will contact all after we reach that 25 minimum.  Payment  needs to be made by the February 16th Snobird Mtg.
  • A comment on the LCB page that I thought was very important to share with y'all!!  Snowbirds Gulf Coast MagazineSnowbirds through the years have brought a wonderful “give back” attitude to the communities of the Gulf Coast. It is one of the things I most admire about our “winter locals.”
  • Our speaker for the February 16th Snobird Meeting will be Lori Parish Keelin, Blessed to Blessings Boxes for Baldwin County. The group is one of several in the area whose mission is to help feed the hungry.  Please consider helping the South Baldwin Christian Church food pantry on Keller Road in Foley and Blessed to Blessings by Bringing non-perishable food items to the meeting; we will also take up a monetary collection. Donations will be divided between the two organizations.
  • Mary’s Shelter Gulf Coast Presents our 3rd Annual Be My Valentine? $10,000 Draw Down Extravaganza
    • Sunday, February 12, 2023 Our Lady of the Gulf Parish 12:00 - 4:00 p.m.
    • Tickets are $100 each with a chance to win $10,000.
    • All proceeds Support our moms and babies! Join us for lunch, silent and live auction 
    • Entertainment by our Gulf Coasts' very own Elvis!

  • The 11 annual 8 Pin No Tap Bowling Tournament, February 14th,at 1:00, benefiting Christian Services.  The tournament is at Gulf Bowl located behind the Tangier Center. Come and support the Wisconsin Snobirds that are bowling. There is also 50/50 raffle and other prizes
  • Time change reminder: To those Wisconsin Snobird members that have signed up for The Wisconsin Club Picnic "REMEMBER", the eating time has been changed to 11:30

  • At our meeting yesterday I forgot two announcements.
  1. The Baldwin County Heritage Museum  (BCHM) Jim Lorenz Memorial FUND-RAISER March 4, 2023 Is a JAMBALAYA! Time is 11 am to 2 pm. The price is $10.00 a plate. BCHM is located one (1) mile east of Elberta's traffic light on US-98. You can call BCHM to order Tickets 10 am to 3 pm Wednesday to Saturday Phone number is 251.986.8375 OR TICKETS ARE ALSO AVAILABLE AT OUR SNOBIRD MEETINGS.
  2. Christian Services Spaghetti Dinner is this Monday February 6th  serving from 4:30 to 7:00 PM. Dinner is at The Gulf Shores United Methodist Church "Building B" 1720 Gulf Shores Parkway.  Besides the wonderful Spaghetti this is live music and numerous Bucket Raffles. Tickets are $10.00 are are available at the door, this is a Dine-in or Drive through!
