Snobirds:

  • Alabama Governor Ivey latest decree now has closed basically all businesses except carryout or drive thru restaurants and convenience stores/gas stations. There is also a very few businesses that are allowed to be open.
  • Thank you to Cindy Spangler for offering to become the greeter coordinator. Still need one person to Chair the Picnic:  ** A Chairperson or Persons to lead the annual club Picnic. There is a full crew of people to help with the picnic and all have years of experience. Chairperson just need to over see the picnic and make a decision sometimes. There is also a former Chairperson to help you. This is replacing Bob and Barb Puerling who will not be returning to the Gulf Coast next year. Any question please contact me  As usual there will be someone to help you with this positions.
  • Tom Chestnut: REMINDS you that the Lanyards and plastic Name Badge sleeve need to be saved for next year.   Thanks Tom

  • Laura Krzysiak, Trivia Night: Laura has agreed to be the chairperson for the Trivia Night.,  Thank You Laura

Need Chairpersons for:

  1. Dirty Santa at Christmas. Run the Dirty Santa at Christmas Dinner, this job involves drawing numbers of attends at Christmas dinner to come up and pick a gift.
  2. Chairperson for the Club Picnic. There is a full crew of people to help with the picnic and all have years of experience. Chair person just need to over see the picnic and make a decision sometimes. This is replacing Bob and Barb Puerling who will not be returning to the Gulf Coast next year.
  3. Coordinator to range for greeters at every meeting.  arrange for four (4) different GREETERS for each meeting. A list of members and a phone number is provided to you to contact those who have asked to be a greeter

Snobirds:

Snobird season is not over

  • Wisconsin Snobird Card Players; Card playing at the Gulf Shores American Legion has been CANCELLED for the rest of March.
  • Webmaster BACKUP: Patrick Mattson, our club webmaster, suggested that we should have a backup person for our webpage. If interested contact Patrick  mattson.patrick@gmail.com This is only a BACKUP position!!!
  • Breakfast: the first of four breakfasts is this Wednesday March 18th 8:30 at The Diner, 2420 E 2nd St, Gulf Shores. Breakfast is off the menu and there is no sign up needed.
  • Easter Dinner will be at the OBCC on Sunday April 12 starting with the social at 12:30 and dinner at 2:00. The Wisconsin Club fixes the ham and provides plates, plastic ware, napkins, coffee, and  tea. If you prefer a adult beverage you will need to bring your own.  Easter Dinner is for club members, their family and friends.
  • You will be able to sign up for The Wisconsin Snobird Easter Dinner at the breakfast. Since I will NOT be at the breakfast, Carol Pollard has offered to have the sign up sheet in her control at the breakfast.
  • Summer Luncheons: Rachael Heldt is the chairperson for the Summer Luncheon program. She has asked if there is anyone in the western part of the state would be interested in hosting a luncheon.  If there is something of interest near you contact Rachael at heldtrat@gmail.com   She would be glad to hear from you..
  • Help: There are three chairpersons positions open for next season: Any question please contact me  As usual there will be someone to help you with any of the positions.

  • There was a ribbon cutting ceremony at the Alabama Gulf Coast Zoo on Wednesday March 11th at 9:00 .  Yes the zoo is now open after 15 years for all to see.  Remember that if you attended the Low Country Boil this year your punched ticket gets you a one time admission to the zoo, offer is good through the 2021 Snowbird Season.

Snobirds:

  • Because of a last minute conflict at the OBCC our MEETING WEDNESDAY will be at the OBEC.  That ORANGE BEACH EVENT CENTER is where we have our January and February meetings.  The Meeting will again start at 9:00 with Coffee and donuts before.  PLEASE TELL your friends of this last minute change.  The city of Orange Beach has apologized for the inconvenience to all of us.
  • Easter Dinner Sign Up: You can sign up at one of the following: March 11th meeting, at any of the four breakfasts, or by e-mailing or calling Kenn.
  • Easter Dinner;  April 12,  12:30 social,  dinner at 2:00  OBCC sign up bring a pass around Dish and an adult beverage if you want. We will cook the ham, have place setting and coffee & tea.
  • Swearing in of the three elected officers, Board Member, Vice President, President and Mike Grotefend who was appointed as a board member for next season, will be done at Wednesday's meeting.
  • Wednesday's meeting speaker will be local author Margaret Childress Long. Margaret is a historian and writer, most of her books area about the City of Orange Beach. She is also the city Historian.
  • Fundraising recap 2020 ($31,550 total raised)
    • $9,000 Low Country Boil for the zoo
    • $2,850  Brat Fest  the three island Fire Departments
    • $6,500  Baldwin County Heritage Museum Golf Outing for the Museum
    • $1,200  8 Pin Tap Bowling Tournament for Christian Services
    • $12,000  Trivia Night  for the local Libraries and Literacy Council
  • Lunch after our meeting Wednesday March 11th is at "YoHo Rum & Tacos"
  • We will be awarding our Scholarship to a senior of Gulf Shores High School at  Wednesday's meeting. 
  • The Low Country Boil needs a recording Secretary. The job includes attending three mtg. one the first week of January the  second the first week of February and the last is the wrap up meeting late February or early March. The job includes taking the minutes at the meeting and typing them and sending them to me. I will send them out to all the committee Chairpersons. E-mail or call me if you have a question.
  • Kaysheri Haffner, The 11 year old young lady who started Helping Hands Gulf Shores at the age of 11. She told us how the organization has raised money for children younger than her,  now 15. The young people in the origination has raised $16,000 in 4 years to help this very young children.  She told us about a fundraiser on March 27, 11 to 6 at Happy Pappys Coffee Shop at 1550 W. 2nd ave. in GS (behind Rouse's) to help raise money for a 2 year old boy with cancer. She handed out a few fliers, while doing so she answered some question. Members ask if they could donate money today. I had told her we do not allow asking for money. I decided to let her collect money at the door as members left. Kaysheri receives $321.00 from Wisconsin Snobirds Club members. (way to go Wisconsin) Click here to see the flier.

Wisconsin Snobirds

Snobirds:

  • Zoo Fun Day Thursday March 5th.  If you are one of the 90 members attending we will be on the veranda of the Safari Club and we eat at 12:30.
  • Website:  In little over two months usage of the new website has surpassed the old website with almost 2,969 site visits, the old site had 2,896 visits over a year (Jan-Dec, 2019). Webmaster Patrick Mattson, thanks all snowbirds for visiting and using the website.
  • Tom Chestnut, Membership Chairperson reminds us that we need to save their Lanyards and plastic Name Badge sleeve for next year.
  • March 4th Meeting
    • Divemaster Mark Bollinger will make a return appearance to discuss the past year's underwater activity thru various videos and stills he has taken since his last visit.
    • Kaysheri Haffner who four years ago, when at the age of 11, started a charity organization called Helping Hands Gulf Shores. 
    • Lunch, at your expense, after the meeting is at the Orange Beach Shrimp Basket in front of Zeke's Landing on Perdido Beach Blvd.
